Volunteer Requirements

Beacon of Hope volunteers provide the equivalent hours of 8 full-time staff members!

In order to volunteer at the Beacon of Hope, you just need to fill out the Volunteer Application, attend an orientation, follow the rules for safety, and bring a great attitude! It’s that simple! Once you have done so, we can schedule you for volunteering.

Ready to join us in working to end hunger?

Step 1: Complete the volunteer application.

Step 2: Orientation is required for individuals prior to getting placed on our volunteer schedule. However, if you are looking to schedule a group, please contact volunteer services (Jessi Koontz) at (828) 649-3470.

Step 3: During the orientation, you will be presented with the Beacon of Hope current volunteer opportunities and you will have the chance to sign up for your first shift.

Step 4: Once you are on the schedule, come on down! Dress comfortable, but please remember no sandals, heels or open-toed shoes in the warehouse, and wear layers. In the winter, it’s cold in the warehouse and in the summer it can get very warm.

Volunteers younger than 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult chaperone (aged 18 or older). Volunteers between the age of 16 and 18 may volunteer without an adult, but must present the Beacon of Hope with a release signed by their guardian. Release of Liability for a Minor.
